2020 Local Rules - 8 Year Old Kid Pitch

Minimum Play Time

  1. No player will sit out consecutive innings.
  2. No player will sit a second inning, until all players have sat one inning. Exception is the starting pitcher. Once removed from pitching position, he must sit the next complete inning, if all players have sat one inning. If pitcher (who has not sat an inning) is removed during the last inning, must sit remainder of the inning.
  3. Player MUST start the next game after sitting the start of the previous game.


  1. Kid pitching will be used for the first two innings of each game, and
  2. No more than 35 pitches per day for an 8 year old prior to July 11. On or after July 11, follow Little League Pitch Count Rules.
  3. No pitcher may pitch two consecutive innings, and no pitcher may pitch in two consecutive games. This will ensure at least four pitchers re being developed.
  4. Pitch count will be administered by visiting team’s scorekeeper.
  5. When your team is on offense
  6. A continuous batting order is used. This means the order is set #1 through 14 (or however many players there are on the roster). The order stays the same until the dates specified below. For the following game, the order picks up where it left if off. For example, if the #5 hitter made the last out of the game, the batting order starts with the #6 hitter the following game.
  7. Batting order can be reset one time on July 11 (or first game after July 11) and at the start of playoffs.
  8. There are no base on balls. If a hitter during the first two innings is walked, a tee will be used to allow the hitter to put the ball in play.
  9. There will be a maximum of three swings allowed off the tee. If the third swing isn’t put in play it is an out.
  10. During the coach pitch innings each batter will get five pitches. If the batter fouls off the fifth pitch, then one more pitch is thrown. If the ball is not put into play after six pitches the batter is out.
  11. Innings end with 5 runs being scored or 3 defensive outs or all players on roster have batted, whichever comes first.
  12. Base stealing is not allowed. This includes no stealing home.
  13. Every batter and base runner must wear a helmet with face mask
  14. FOOT IN THE BOX RULE. After entering the batter’s box, the batter must remain with at least one foot throughout the at bat in accordance Little League Playing Rule 6.02(c).

Failure to follow minimum play and pitching rules:

  • First Offense: Verbal warning and appear before executive board
  • Second Offense: Suspension for next played
  • Third Offense: Expulsion from the league

Game Time

  1. No new inning starts after 1 hour and 35 minutes
  2. Complete inning if started prior to 1 hour and 35 minutes.
  3. Time limits may only be applied after the game is official (3 ½ innings if home team is leading).
  4. Continue playing games until the time limit in situations where the outcome is already decided – ex: Visiting team is up by 6 runs after 4 ½ innings and game time is 1:32 – allow the Home team to hit to finish the inning.
  5. In the above scenario, if the Home team is winning and the game time reaches 1:35, the game is considered complete and play should stop


  1. Responsible for umpiring the next game following yours
  2. Only managers and coaches may umpire
  3. If home plate umpire is late, one of the base umpires will call balls and strikes from behind the pitcher. Do not delay the start of the game.

Substitute Manager/Roster Coaches

Only the Manager and two (2) Roster Coaches are allowed on the field or in the dugout during games. In the event a team is missing a Manager or Roster Coach(es) for a game, a Manager or Roster Coach from another Tuckahoe team may be used as a substitute coach(es). Members of the TLL Board may also serve as substitute coaches. Coaches cannot be borrowed from the opposing team. Substitute coaches must be reported to the VP of Baseball in advance of the game.

Illegal Bats

Beginning with the 2018 season, non-wood and laminated bats used in the Little League (Majors) and below, Intermediate (50-70) Division, Junior League divisions, and Challenger division shall bear the USA Baseball logo signifying that the bat meets the USABat – USA Baseball’s Youth Bat Performance Standard. If a player uses an illegal bat (as defined by the LL rulebook, ie: illegal composite bats etc.) during a game or has an illegal composite bat in the dugout (including in that player’s bat bag) during the game, the player and manager are ejected from the game.
