NEW DIVISION
This season we will have a 50/70 league for kids League Age 13. 13 year old kids may choose to enter the 50/70 division, the seniors division or both.
SEASON
Practices will start the week of March 7. Games for 50/70 will begin on March 26 and
run until June(ish).
VOLUNTEER WORK/FUND RAISING
TLL is an all volunteer organization. We need everyone’s help! Parents are
expected to serve one shift of concession stand duty during the season.
50/70 LEAGUE - FAQ'S
What is 50/70 Intermediate?
The 50/70 Intermediate division is played on a field with a pitcher’s mound that is 50 feet from home plate and bases that are 70 feet apart (i.e. "50/70"). For comparison, the Little League baseball fields (Fields 6 and 7) are 46/60 and the Juniors/Seniors fields (Fields 8 and 9) are 60.5/90.
In the past, we have found that many 13 year olds have aged out of Little League but are not quite physically ready for the “big” field. This will be especially true now and going forward as this year’s rising 13’s are the first with the age change that took place in Little League several years ago. We want to offer the 50/70 Intermediate division for these kids so they can continue to play baseball on a field in which they are capable of being the most successful.
Who can play in the 50/70 Division?
Only players that are league age 13 year old will be eligible to register for the 50/70 division. Tuckahoe 11 and 12 year old players will remain in the Majors division and cannot “play up”.
If you are a 13 year old, you have the option to play (1) 50/70 Intermediate, (2) Seniors on the “big” field, or (3) both. If you choose to play both, there will be a discounted registration fee on the second team.
How many 50/70 teams will there be?
Based on the number of returning 13 year olds, we expect to be able to field between two and three teams at TLL. In order to play a full schedule, we will plan to interleague with other local Little Leagues and likely play at least some of our games away from TLL – probably places like Richmond LL, Atlee LL, or Huguenot LL.
In the unlikely event we do not get enough 13 year old players interested to field TLL teams, you will be given the option to either refund your registration or move to the Juniors/Seniors division.
Will there be a 50/70 Intermediate All Star team?
Yes. We intend to enter D5 all-star teams in the 50/70 division, assuming enough 13 year olds register to play.
