It is with much excitement that we are announcing a new volunteer opportunity
for students aged 15-18: The Tuckahoe Little League Challenger Division Buddy
Program!
Tuckahoe Little League offers a Little League Challenger Division for
developmentally and physically challenged athletes. Games and practices are
held on a specially designed baseball field within Tuckahoe park called the
Challenger Field. If you find yourself at the park and haven’t yet seen the
Challenger Field, come take a peek because it really is something special and
unique to this area.
To assist our talented Challenger athletes this spring season, we would love
to have a select group of “Challenger Buddies”. As a Buddy, you would be at
practices and home games to play alongside and help our athletes as needed.
For example, you may help our athletes arrive safely to their bases, assist
fielding balls, and just generally help make each game and practice safe and
full of fun. And of course, we will expect tons of cheering and encouragement
from you! As a Buddy, you will get the opportunity to make new friends, grow
with our Challenger athletes, and share your love of the sport with a fellow
peer. Oh, and you can also earn some volunteer hours. Just a few of the many,
many perks.
Time commitment. Luckily as far as schedules go, our Challenger Crew are a
pretty set bunch. Their season usually starts late March/early April,
depending on weather. Practices are usually Tuesdays from 6 -7:30 PM, and
games are Friday evenings from 6 – 8:30 PM. Help is not needed at their away
games and all practices and games are held at TLL. Pretty sweet deal right?
To be a Buddy you must:
- 8th grade -12th grade
-
Have reliable transportation. Even if your parents bring you, they must
commit to getting you to practice and games and you must commit to those
Tuesday practices and Friday games. The Challenger athletes will look
forward to seeing your smiley face and you must do your best to attend.
-
Be a responsible, kind, patient, and encouraging individual that practices
great sportsmanship
-
Keep up with your grades *Important
- Prior baseball or softball experience is very helpful
- Be willing to meet and make new friends
-
Write a short (5-6 sentences – typed) on why you want to be a Buddy.
If you would like to volunteer to be a Buddy or you have any questions,
please email
[email protected]. If you are applying to be a Buddy, please include your 5-6 sentence
statement on why you want to be a Buddy. Be sure to include your name, phone number, and address.
Also, if you have played for TLL or have other “Buddy” experience let us

Thanks everyone, and we look forward to a wonderful, safe, and fun season
for all!
